Born in Strasbourg, Thierry Bisch is a painter from a long tradition known as animal painting.
Mastering all facets of his art, Thierry Bisch began by working on his animal portraits with acrylics and pigments, gradually moving towards traditional oil painting.
An heir to the Old Masters, he understood the importance of preparing the backgrounds of his canvases. Over time, he acquired a perfect mastery of tempera, achieving a unique effect so characteristic of his work.
Pierre Thibeault, a Quebec writer and journalist, wrote: «Thierry Bisch is not an animal painter. The artist never represents the animal in its natural environment. In his work, there are no forests, no moors, no snow-capped mountains, no savannah. Even less does he portray it in a role in which it would have defined millennia of human civilization. In Bisch's work, there are neither pastures, nor slaughterhouses, and certainly not circus-like environments.»
In 2010, Thierry Bisch began painting the works in his series “Delete?” (Delete in English is the ordinary way to delete text, an image, or a file on a computer). Thierry's idea is to paint large-format portraits of endangered animals listed on the IUCN (International Union for Conservation of Nature) Red List.
The Red List, created in 1964, is the most comprehensive global inventory of the overall conservation status of plant and animal species. Each species is assigned a threat status on a scale of eight stages. Thierry Bisch's project is to create an international artwork aimed at raising awareness among urban populations about the imminent threat of extinction facing a large number of species. of animal species worldwide.
With “Delete?”, Thierry Bisch has created an essential work that will resonate with future generations.
