In June 2006, HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco decided to establish his Foundation to address our planet's alarming environmental situation. The Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation is dedicated to the protection of the environment and the promotion of sustainable development on a global scale. The Foundation supports initiatives of public and private organizations, in the fields of research and studies, technological innovation and socially-aware practices.
IUCN, the world's oldest and largest environmental network, is a democratic union with more than 1,000 government and NGO member organisations, and some 11,000 volunteer scientists in more than 150 countries. The IUCN Red List of Threatened SpeciesT is a system for classifying species in terms of the risk of extinction they face. It is an online database that allows people to search for information and contains the global status of over 44,000 species, as well as additional information. The Red List identifies where conservation efforts need to be focused for the greater benefit of life on earth.
